Can You Trade News on a Futures Prop Evaluation? (2026)
On Alpha Futures evaluations (Zero, Advanced, Premium), news trading is allowed with no restrictions (news policy). After you pass, Qualified Account rules differ: Zero Qualified restricts new orders within 2 minutes before and after ForexFactory red-folder news on the traded asset (holds allowed). Advanced and Premium Qualified Accounts have no news restrictions. Always confirm live rules before NFP week.

Why traders search this before NFP
News events (NFP, CPI, FOMC, inventory reports) spike volatility on ES, NQ, and CL. Prop traders want to know:
- Can I open trades into the release on my evaluation?
- Do rules change after I become a Qualified Trader?
- Does “allowed” mean no risk rules still apply?
Allowed does not mean no MLL, Daily Loss Guard, or consistency rules.
Alpha Futures: evaluations (all plans)
Stage | Zero | Advanced | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
Evaluation | No news restrictions | No news restrictions | No news restrictions |
You may trade NFP, CPI, and other releases during the evaluation if your strategy, size, and risk stay inside MLL, DLG (Zero), profit target, and consistency (Advanced/Premium eval).
Alpha Futures: Qualified Accounts (after pass)
Stage | Zero | Advanced | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
Qualified Account | No new orders 2 min before/after red-folder news on the traded asset. Holds allowed. | No restrictions | No restrictions |
If you plan to scalp news long term on a Qualified Account, Advanced or Premium avoid the Zero qualified order window.
News trading vs other rules

Rule | Still applies on eval? |
|---|---|

Eval consistency (Advanced/Premium) | Yes until pass |

Practical checklist for news week
- Read news policy for your stage (eval vs qualified)
- Know your MLL and DLG (Zero) in dollars, not only ticks
- Size down around red-folder events if you are learning
- On Advanced/Premium eval, remember 50% consistency (one huge NFP day may not pass you alone)
- Simulated fills can differ from live liquidity; sim results do not guarantee live outcomes
Industry note (no competitor rule tables)
Some firms ban news on evaluations or Qualified Accounts. Others allow with widened spreads only in marketing copy. Only trust each firm’s official help centre. This article states Alpha Futures policy only.
